Blue Velvet Shrimp
Blue Velvet Shrimp are quite stunning species and they are a variant of Red Cherry Shrimp which is quite popular. They have a cerulean blue colouration, which adds to the soothing and elegant ambience that aquariums bring.
They are very popular because of how easy it is to take care of them and their colouration. They are quite easy to breed too. They are freshwater shrimp and therefore can thrive in any fresh water because they adapt to nature easily. They are also used in large aquariums, community tanks, and planted tanks because they help in algae control and waste management. They breed very fast too, and they form colonies. This allows them to be more effective, especially in terms of cleaning and enhancing the aquariums with their colour.
Blue Velvet Shrimp maximum size is two inches in length, but this size is often achieved by larger females. The common length stands at around 1.5 inches for the females while the males grow up to 1.25 inches.
For aquarists, it is important to note that the blue velvet shrimp prefer tanks that have aquatic plants like Cabomba, baby tears, and willow moss. They enjoy the cover offered by the aquatic plants and they love grazing on such plants to get algae.
