User Experience
Having owned a couple of large tanks and different filtration systems, I would choose the Marineland bio pumps any day cause of their quality. I have used these with tanks ranging from 20 to 150 gallons, and they work superior over every other system except the canister systems. However, the ease of use of these bio-wheel filters makes them my first choice.

User Experience
This filter being a classic is the only one I prefer to use although there are fancier models on the market. If you are the type who obsessively maintains your aquarium and prefer to do it cheaply, then the EHEIM class is perfect for you. The excellent foam filter pad that comes with this model is excellent at removing microscopic impurities, but they get clogged pretty soon. So you will have to clean them every week or switch the filter to a coarser pad that can be cleaned once in 2 or 3 weeks.
5. Polar Aurora Free Media 3-Stage External Aquarium Filter

The design is quite intuitive to put together; however, the plastic holding clamps that come with it may not be adequate, so I switched them with metal ones from a hardware store. The filter performance is flawless in my 55-gallon tank.
6. Ehm Fltr 2217 Classic Wm 264g
Coming from a company that’s famous for making one of the best aquarium filters, the Ehm Fltr 2217 Classic is a robust filter that comes with a 264 GPH flow rate making it perfect for tanks up to 100-gallon capacity.
Once set up, it doesn’t require much maintenance and runs for a long time before the filter media need to be changed. This classic design has all the qualities desired from a filter needed to maintain a large aquarium such as simple but effective technology, low maintenance, and high efficiency.
All of that is done through the use of a single chamber design which can be swapped with filter media of your choice to control the filtering quality needed. The filet media can be cleaned once in 3 to 6 months, depending on use. A great choice for a 75 gallon fish tank filter.

The 2217 classic design has plenty of power and good flow pressure, which can whip up your tank if not aimed properly. However, it also helps in creating good circulation throughout the tank and gentle turbulence at the top for plenty of aeration. If you understand your tank’s needs and need a filter that will do the right job at a minimal cost for many years straight, then this is the model to go. It’s not as fancy as what is available on the market today, but it does the job cheap and does it well!
